As part of the refresh to my older paperback book covers, to try and make them a bit more true to their story and more appealing, I have decided to give away the first part of the trilogy “The Phoney War” as as a free 130,000 word e-book.
When her genius grandfather dies, Alexa Martin’s simple life is changed immeasurably, taking her from a humble history scholar to owner of a cutting-edge technology and research company. Along with the smartest and brightest of her university friends they embark to push two scientific breakthroughs which will hopefully start the world on a path of recovery from its current precarious future. However, both breakthroughs have the ability to massively disrupt current industries, and with the world and a host of powerful governments and interest groups watching she needs to tread especially carefully.
The first book in the trilogy focuses on the introduction of the main characters, the science and technology, and sets the foundations for the later more action-packed books. It can be read completely stand-alone and has no sex or violence so is safe for any age. The book does dwell a bit on the science and technology which while not important to the story do make it a more fun read if you understand them. You can download the free eBook from your favourite vendor => here
You can also buy the paperback from Amazon (US/UK/AU)
Note Amazon charge a minimum $0.99 for e-books.
If you like this first book then you should definitely go on to buy the full series The Summer of Reasoning, a 370,000 word e-book which contains all three parts of the trilogy. Unfortunately this full eBook for is not available on Amazon, I still have the paperbacks on there, but technical difficulties with ISBN numbers were just annoying enough for me to say stuff it! I may get around to sorting the problem out.. maybe after my next book, but until then why not try supporting some other vendors who don’t control 90% of the market.
Cover Design Refresh
The new cover designs for the other two paperback books are also awesome in my humble opinion. The first one you have already seen, and if you’ve read the whole series you should be able to visualise the chapters which all of these come from.
The 5.5 x 8.5 (15.24cm x 22.9cm) Book format with the off-white pages is the most esthetically pleasing. The bigger 9×6 format I have available at Amazon has less pages and a few cents cheaper to print but feel a little cheap, but it is all semantic, at $20+ per book I don’t expect the market to be anyone but me, which I will buy to go to friends and eventually the local libraries.
Oh, on a final note, I gave a copy of the paperback version of A Level of Consciousness to the Blenheim library, it is one of the ones with the original cover, so if you live in the area, pop in and reserve it for free. I will also donate them the three paperbacks above once I am happy with the quality, a big thank you again to the National Library of NZ for giving me another 10 ISBN numbers, it should take me a few years to use them up.
